Never Miss a Due Date: Build a Bills and Renewals Calendar
By Himanshu Kumar Gupta · · 6 min read
A single missed credit card due date can cost you a late fee, interest on the whole balance and a mark on your CIBIL report. A missed health insurance renewal can reset waiting periods you spent years clearing. None of this is about money. It is about dates.
Monthly dates
- Home, car and personal loan EMIs
- Credit card due dates (one per card)
- SIP debit dates
- Rent and society maintenance
- Electricity, water, gas, broadband and mobile bills
- Subscriptions you might want to cancel before they renew
Yearly and quarterly dates
| What | When | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Health insurance renewal | Policy anniversary | A lapse can restart waiting periods |
| Term and life insurance premium | Policy anniversary | Grace period is short; a lapse means no cover |
| Vehicle insurance | Policy expiry | Driving uninsured is illegal and risky |
| Vehicle PUC | Every 6 or 12 months | Fines at checkpoints |
| Advance tax | 15 Jun, 15 Sep, 15 Dec, 15 Mar | Interest under 234B and 234C |
| ITR filing | 31 July for most salaried people (check the year's notified date) | Late fee and lost carry-forward |
| Property tax | Set by your municipality | Penalties and rebate deadlines |
| School and college fees | Term start | Late fees |
| FD maturity | Maturity date | Reinvest instead of letting it idle |
| Passport and driving licence | Expiry | Renewal takes weeks |
How to set reminders that actually work
- Remind days before, not on the day. A week before for most bills, 30 days for insurance renewals and document expiry.
- Keep one list. Dates scattered across bank apps, emails and SMS are how things slip.
- Mark each bill paid or skipped. Then overdue items stand out.
- Review once a month. Five minutes at the start of the month is enough.
Finkoin's bills calendar
Finkoin's Bills & renewals calendar puts all of this on one month view: loan EMIs and premiums you have added in the Tracker, credit card due days, policy renewals and anything else you add, with reminders before each date. It works on the web, the installable web app and the Finkoin app. See it on the features page.
Paying on time also protects your score. Read how your CIBIL score is calculated to see why payment history matters most.
Frequently asked questions
- What are the advance tax due dates in India?
- 15 June (15%), 15 September (45%), 15 December (75%) and 15 March (100%) of the estimated tax for the year.
- What happens if I miss a credit card due date?
- You pay a late fee, lose the interest-free period so interest applies on the whole balance, and a delay of 30 days or more can be reported to credit bureaus.
- How early should I renew health insurance?
- Before the policy end date. Many insurers allow a short grace period, but claims during that period may not be covered, so renew early.
