PPF has a 15-year lock-in that you can extend in blocks of 5 years. You can deposit from ₹500 to ₹1.5 lakh a year, and interest is compounded yearly.
The government sets the PPF rate every quarter. The examples here assume 7.1%, the rate PPF has paid for several years; check the current rate before planning.
PPF is EEE: deposits qualify under Section 80C in the old regime, and both the interest and the maturity amount are tax-free.
A = P × [((1 + i)^n − 1) ÷ i] × (1 + i)
| Yearly deposit | 15 years | 20 years | 25 years |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹50,000 | ₹13.6 lakh | ₹22.2 lakh | ₹34.4 lakh |
| ₹1,00,000 | ₹27.1 lakh | ₹44.4 lakh | ₹68.7 lakh |
| ₹1,50,000 | ₹40.7 lakh | ₹66.6 lakh | ₹1.03 crore |
